Managing Teams including Remote Teams

Managing a team can be a challenging and rewarding part of any manager’s job, but it is often made more difficult when the team members are remote from each other or their manager – or maybe both.  A well managed team works more effectively, deals proactively with issues, is easier to manage and will have a lower staff/volunteer turnover.

This course will:

  • Define what a team is
  • Explain what an effective and an ineffective team looks like
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills and explain how these can be used with both remote and on-site teams
  • Explain the key behaviours that underpin an effective team
  • Demonstrate how to develop these behaviours within a team
  • Explain the stages of team development and how these affect team performance
  • Explain some of the specific challenges facing remote teams
  • Draw up a plan to address the issues around managing remote teams
  • Explain how team exercises can help team development

Learning Outcomes

Following this course, participants will:

  • Know what makes a team and how to spot effective and ineffective teams
  • Understand how to build an effective team
  • Understand how to communicate effectively with teams both on site and remotely

Participants will have an opportunity to try out some team exercises to help consolidate the learning.·
